Websites are an easy-to access, free resource for design inspiration. Think about the websites that you frequently visit. What is it about the website that catches your eye? Is it the use of graphics, font styles or the color choices?
For today's assignment, tell me about one website that you believe has a great design. Identify at least two features of the site that you like and discuss why you believe they appeal to people. Be sure to provide the website URL in your answer.
Then tell me about one website you believe is poorly designed. What is it about the site's features that you dislike. What would YOU do to improve it? Again, provide the URL to the site in your response.

I think that the abercrombie & fitch website has a great design. Two features that are on this website are the colors and the scroll bar. I think that it catches people's eyes.

Also I think that the MTV homepage is a bad design because it is cluttered and doesnt have a varity of colors. If I could change things on the page, I would have dropdown bars to make less clutter and have more colors.
Leo Burnett is the greatest website I've ever visited. I love it! (If you havne't seen it, definitely check it out.)
ReplyDeleteIt has very interesting graphics that double as clickable links.
Also, you can view the company's news history all the way back to 2005.
I think the appeals to people are the interactive scenery (if you move your mouse, the entire screen moves that direction), the and the simple graphic design is aesthecially pleasing.
One website I find unattractive is Facebook. I use it often,but the layout is confusing. When I first started using the site, it was hard to navigate and ran slowly.
There are too many applications that slow the site down; there is no graphic detail, just white pages with a blue header.
As a wise noble, I feel as though a superior website to all of those that are currently junking up this interlocking of the inter-web is the site of mylifeisaverage.com. Its simple design and easy to locate information allows the user of the site to feel masterful in his own domain.
ReplyDeleteOn the contrary, the website known to many as myspace.com fails at getting it's message across. It is so junked up with ads and applications that you lose your train of thought when you fisrt log-on. To fix it? The creator of the website should quit and apply for a job with facebook in order to learn the brilliance which is Facebook.

ReplyDeleteIt is very well laid out and very formal. Everything is easy to access and easy to find. It is easy to find people because you are required to use your first and last name as your username. Though you cannot change the layout to fit your personality, I enjoy the formality and uniformity it offers.
Though I am a huge fan of social networking, I absolutely cannot stand the clutter and mess that is Myspacee.com. Myspace is unorganized and disfunctional. Things are hard to find and there are WAY to many bugs in their server. To fix myspace, I would probably have to restructure the whole site, but for starters I would Lay everything anyone would need and take away all the extra clutter. I would reorganize the homepage so that it looked like there was some rhyme or reason to it.
A good website design I have recently saw was jamescookphotography.com. The website has many good features that are filled with good design. When you first visit the site it pops up with two choices for the type of photography he does.When you clicik on one it starts a slide show of some of the best pictures he has taken. It is very appealing to the eye with the photos because it takes up the entire screen. At the bottom it gives you your options of things to do.

Google is a greatly designed website. Its simple and easy to find. There really is no complications to it at all. You need hair ideas, go to google; You need to find an address, go to google. It cant really get any easier. A badly designed webpage Mia UK, it is covered in pictures and bright lights, its confusing and im not really even sure what it is used for. If i could change one thing about the miauk website it would be the blinking color effect, it messes with peoples eyes and makes it ten times more confusing.
ReplyDeleteOne website I believe has a great design is hisgoldeneyes.com. This website is visually appealing because it has amazing graphics, and is extremely colorful. It is also very informative, as it has blogs, forums, galleries, music playlists, and is updated daily with new cast information and movie/book news.

A website that i believe is poorly designed is myspace.com. Myspace has recently updated most of their technology, and I find it very confusing. It is lacking original ideas, it seems like it's just trying to copy facebook. The only reason I ever log on anymore is to listen to music. The constant pop up of ads is extremely annoying. I think they should discontinue the ads and incorporate more unique ideas to improve the quality of their site.

I like the design of this site because there is a large slideshow on the homepage that displays specific designs, specials the site is having, and quotes from important magazines (such as Elle) describing the overall quality of the products. I also like how the font is generally very basic, but it's occasionally in a lime-green color to highlight your cart and checkout, free shipping on orders of $100 or more, and special contests the site sponsors.

This site allows you to make pictures with a virtual lite brite kit. You can choose one of the available templates to place pegs, or you can free-form any picture you want. I dislike the design because it's so basic... There are only two links on the site, one titled "features", and the other titled "gallery". In the gallery there are some impressive pictures (like a dragon!), and then there are others that took no effort at all.
If I could change it, I would turn the gallery spots into a big contest, and handpick the really intricate designs to be shown on the site. I would also improve the general look of the site by choosing different colors in the background and improving the title at the top by making it look relevant (maybe by spelling out the Lite Brite individual letters in different pegboards?).

I honestly hate this site because there is a bunch of stuff i'm not concerned with. I wish they would just have white space verses stuff i didn't search for.
Facebook.com is a great website.Its easy to follow layout, organized information,tight security and amazing interaction makes it easy to connect all people and make it truly a small world. Though the home page graphics need a dash of color it follows great with the website's theme of bring people together from all over the world.:))
ReplyDeleteMYSPACE.com!! I have come to not be able to stand myspace. Its a complete cluttered mess and has so many bugs in its system, which has caused me great deals of computer trouble. And the site its self has become slow and dull, and takes much time to upload a page or to upload photos. The website would have to be completly worked on to fix it or even get the hacks out of it. And the security is very low. All you ever see on Dr. Phil and on the news anymore is stories of obduction of children whos info reached the wrong person over myspace. What was once a great site has become a disgrace!!
My life is average has a great website setup. ( http://mylifeisaverage.com/ )The simplicity of the website encompasses the idea of being average.On the website, it gives an 'average word of the day' I think this appeals to people because they find comical aspects in the word choice. Also MLIA allows you to submit stories, this allows readers of this blog like website to actually participate, which brings in more users to find the best websites to be published.
ReplyDeleteA web site that is poorly designed is Bella De Soto's website( http://www.belladesoto.us/page4.html ) The website is over crowded and has a lot of adds and movement along it's links.In order to improve it i think the entire website need to start with a plain background and use more color cordination, this would allow the eye to focus more on the important aspects of the website.
I like the best website to go and look up is jamescookphotography.com is because i like to look at the senior pictures and i think they are fun to look at all the senior pictures and another is abercrombie & fitch is one of the good website to look at and look at the they clothes and stuff and another website that i love is k-love is another and you can also listen to they music why you are working or something like that.
