Happy New Year!

Hello, 2010. So glad to see you here.

Journalists across the world now how a dilemma--what exactly will they call the new year? Will they say two thousand and ten, or twenty ten when they need to annouce the date? Which is your personal preference and WHY?

We have also reached the end of the decade. I was born in the eighties, you guys the nineties. This is how we refer to those decades. What do you believe the decade that just ended will be referred to as in history? What options do you believe would be appropriate.

Answer today's question by the end of the class period!

  2. I think that calling it two thousand and ten is the best. twenty ten just sounds like something else other than a year. I think that the history of this decade will go down as another rock n' roll or music decade. we had alot of deaths from singers, actors..etc. and so i think that it will be a very memorable decade

  3. It is called twenty ten, we say, "I was born in 19 93" not “I was born in 19 hundred and 90” for this reason it is 20 10. Since we are in the 21st century, we start the decades over again, making these people born in the tens. But this is all irrelevant since the world will end in two years anyway. (I am completely kidding about that)

  4. i think it is best to call it year two thousand and ten. I have no idea what people will call this past decade. Nothing would really make sense and be catchy at the same time. I have no idea...

  6. I believe the decade should be called twenty ten. When you had the 1950's, you didn't call them the nineteen hundred and fifties. You called them the nineteen fifties. Everything can be uniform and easy this way.

    I think this last decade should be reffered to as the double 0's or the thousands because they'd be named after 2000.

  7. I personally believe 2010 should be referred to as two thousand and ten because the only year that can be referred to as twenty ten, is 2012!!!!!

    80's = ehh
    90's = everyone frowns :(

    two things happened in the 90's, Kurt Cobain died and grunge music killed a part of music. Imagine Music being Jesus, grunge music would be Judas.

  8. I would call it twenty ten simply because it is a new decade, thus time for a new name. 2000's are sooo last decade.
    I would call the last decade the 2000's becasue that's what they were.

  9. I believe that to announce the date it should be said two thousand an ten because that is its appropriate name. I think twenty ten is a good nickname for this year but to have it as our decade name would be ridiculus because other years do not sound as good. For example, 2010 and 2012 have alliterating T sounds but they other years, like 2014 or 2011, so saying it in the twenty ten format. I think it will be refered as the eighties reformation era. An appropriate name would be the 200th millinium, or 20 hundreds.

  10. My personal preference for what to call the new year is twenty-ten because when you saw it flows better than two thousand and ten its also alot faster to say, and type.
    I belive the decade that just past could be refered to as the two-thousands because it was the start of the 21st century.

  11. Well in all honesty, when I refer to this new year I would call it two thousand and ten. The only year that I feel would be appropriate calling it some other way would be twenty-twelve beacause there is a movie called that and that makes that year awesome! I believe that this decade would be the era of stupidity. To me this has been proven through goverment choices and just plain jane peoples choices. This era was filled with people that were willing to take risks and put themselves out there for peoples judgment. Movies were made that showed how far people would go just to get attention. A family even said that their son was in a flying balloon..stupid!!! So in my point of veiw this decade is the era of stupid people.

  12. I prefer twenty ten myself because thats how the influences around me have pronounced the new year.

    In the early 1900's (ex:1901,1904) the times wernt referred as the 0's, just the year 1901, 1902 and i think thats how its gona be again

  13. I think we should call that the 2000 to 2010 but not for sure.

  14. I think that journalists should refer to the new year as two thousand and ten. Yes, twenty ten is abbreviated, but it doesn't sound as professional as the longer version.

    The decade that has just ended could simply be reffered to as the beginning of the 20th century. In the 19th century, there wasn't really any name for the first decade, but for the 2nd, it was referred to as the 20's. We could follow that patern for this century, and just add a 2 in front of it.

  15. Personally I like twenty ten. It makes it sound like people are ready for the new decade. two thousand and ten just makes it like any other year.

    I think that it should be named something different - like twenteenies, or something that people will remember for years to come.

  16. THIS IS MARY'S ANSWER!

    The date should now be refered to as twenty ten because we don't say that we were born in nineteen-hundred and whatever we say that we were born in nineteen-ninedy.... blah blah blah.

    Now on the topic of what to call this decade I vote that we all just compromise and call in the decade of the Mary Music. As in, "I was born in the 90s!" or "I was born in the Mary Music." It is a grand decade to be born into and let's be honest.... everyone wants to be born in the Mary Music decade!

  17. We could call the 00-09 "the decade where nothing really big happened besides 9/11 and kanye west"

  18. I prefer calling it twenty ten because I think it sounds more futuristic. (: I believe that there will be no name for the decades as of now. I don't believe that any names would sound appropriate. The only options would be the 100's, but that isn't very logical since were in the 10s right now. I think we should just start back over and have the 20s in 2020, 30s in 2030, and so on.
