Without a doubt, the Olympic games produce many heart-warming moments as athletes achieve their goals after years of sacrifice, dedication and pure hard work. What story seems to be most inspirational to you and why?
If you have not watched a single moment of the Olympics, you still must answer these question in a manner that reflects effort and thought. There are tons of "feel good" Olympic stories available on the Internet.
Due Monday, February 22nd.
I think the the slept olympic people because i think that they need to be careful on what they are doing and stuff.
ReplyDeleteEvan Lysacek wins gold for male figure skateing for the U.S. for the first time since 1988. It seems like the quintessential story, someone working hard to achive their dreams. On a news report it was said that when he was young he was very bad at skating. This shows what a person can achive if they work for it.
ReplyDeleteI think a real heart warming story is the one about Xue and Zhuo Hongbo. they won the Gold medal in Figure skating and they are married. The one thing that makes this story very heart felt though is the fact that they had retired and come back to Vancouver for one last try for the gold medal to honor China. This was the first time since 1960 that the couples figure skating gold medal did not go to a pair from Russia or the Soviet. This story made my heart melt and their skating made you feel like you were floating. This in my opinion was by far the most heartwarming story I have herd thus far.
ReplyDeleteSamia Yusuf Omar, a 200 meter runner from Somalia. Samia Yusuf Omar came in last place out of all of the 200 meter runners. The inspirational aspect is that Samia Yusuf Omar returned to her 2 room house shared with 7 people carrying the Somalia flag with pride. She was greatful for her opportunity that she had been given, not dissappointed about her last place ranking. She stated she was just happy to have the experience and to live in the moment, that getting last in the Olympics is nothing to be ashamed of.
ReplyDeleteWhat i feel is the most insperational to me it would have to be the special olympics russia coach who works with the athlets and says that they are gifts from God. I feel that you have to have a really big heart and be dedicated to helping these athlets and i feel that she really motivational.
ReplyDeleteWhen American Evan Lysacek beat the defending Russian champion Evgeni Plushenko for the gold medal in men's figure skating. It feels a little Cold War cliche with the Russian-American competition, and the fact that the Russian says he should've won simply because he was the favorite adds to this feeling. I watched the medal ceremony for this and they played our national anthem while Lysacek was beaming and Plushenko had a sad defeated look on his face. I read online that he was penalized for illegal moves in his routine, and if he read the rules he would've known that.
ReplyDelete... Well I say boo freaking hoo Commie loser!
The Chinese women's curling team moved to Canada just so they could practice their sport. It is amazing to see this kind of dedication to be able to compete for your country.
ReplyDeleteTorah Bright did a near perfect half pipe run. She didn't even have to wait for the judges to announce her score. She knew that she did amazing and probably won a gold medal. It took hard work and dedication and she proved herself to everyone that she can do it.
ReplyDeleteLindsy Vonn took a bad fall and bruised up her chin. All her hard work was possibly being teared away from her grip. She sat in tears contimplating weather she could snowboard or not. Her coach knew she would pull through because she is a tough girl. She worked for it and got it.

I think the story about the figure skater whose mother died is very heartwarming. Her mother traveled to Vancouver to watch her perform, and she died suddenly. I think it is inspiring that she will continue to skate though her mother died only days ago.
ReplyDeleteJoannie Rochette probably has the heart-wrenching olympian story. Her mother died while she was participating in the olympics. Living through a tragedy like that is hard but imagine living through that and participating in the olympics. Her mother was only 55 and died from a heart attack.
ReplyDeleteI think the most heart-warming story of the olympics would be the one of the 24 year old figure skater, Joannie Rochette. Just hours after learning that her mother had died of a heart attack here, the Canadian figure skater was still practicing and competing.
ReplyDeleteI think that the story about the poor louger who was killed while practiceing is pretty dang inspiring. his team had to deal with his death in the middle of the games and has been able to cope pretty well. A team mate is someone who is a pretty big part of a persons life and when they die so suddenly and so close to the thing they have been dereaming about is a huge deal and pretty tramatizing. They have managed to deal with it all very well and are doing better then expected.
ReplyDeleteI really liked the story about Joannie Rochette's mom that passed away before Rochette performed at the Olympics. It shows that even if something bad happens before something really important, you should still focus on what your trying to win or go for.
