Today in class we read an article about an "incident" that happened at the SAE house. Conduct some online research (www.kentucky.com) to determine what exactly the incident was. What recommendation has authorities made in regards to the SAE house? Do you believe this recommendation is fair? Why or why not? Provide a link in your response to document your source.
The incident in the SAE fraternity house was no more than a member of the house accused of setting fire to a friend who was wrapped in toilet paper. UK responded appropriately when the university's fire marshal, Greg Williamson, recommended closing the house. I think that this recommendation may be a little harsh, because all fraternity houses pull stupid pranks. However, it may be necessary because many people could have been seriously injured or died in this incident.

The SAE frat house is up for recommendation for closing. I do not believe closing the entire house is fair. I highly doubt that every member of SAE was involved in setting the boy on fire, so, therefore, not everyone should be punished. I think that UK should expell all parties involved and keep a tighter reign on Frat and Sorority hazing.
ReplyDeleteThe U.K. police have shut down the SAE building for the rest of the semester. I believe this is completely fair and the right action that autorites should take. Obviously they cannot act like college students so separate housing was aranged for them. You know its really sad that they should have to baby sit college students in the first place. But, that just goes to show that women do mature faster than men haha.
ReplyDeleteI got my information from http://www.lex18.com/news/uks-sae-fraternity-suspended
ReplyDeleteWell the fire Marshall that helped with the clean-up said to keep it closed till 2011. I cant really disagree with that statement. If people are not going to be responcible enough to treat their dorm rooms with respect then they deserve to get them taken away.

The real incident involved a member of the SAE fraternity being covered in toilet paper and set on fire. he was engulfed up to his shoulders, and when he tried to fall and roll the carpet then caught on fire. The authorities as well as the UK president recommended that the SAE fraternity house be closed until 2011. I think this recommendation is fair because the fraternity obviously is not responisble enough to live in a house without endangering others.

So, UK's president has shut down the house since the 'inccident' occured. I think the recommendation is a little harsh considering how long the house has been at UK. I feel like the person who started the fire should of been charged but not had the whole house shut down.

A SAE member wrapped a friend in toilet paper and set it on fire. The victim was on fire to his shoulders. He fell to the floor to get the fire out; the floor caught on fire. Fire officials are decided to close the house until next year. I don't think this is unfair. Maybe this can be a lesson and some incouragement that students won't play such pranks to have something so severe happen.
ReplyDeleteAn SEA fraternity brother lit another brother on fire when he was wrapped in toilet paper. The student who was lit on fire was engulfed in flames up to his shoulder. He jumped down on the ground to try and put it out and caught the carpet on fire. The fire marshall found several fire hazards and had the fraternity shut down. Not much detail was given about this incadent.
ReplyDeleteThe UK chapter was suspended by the national SAE organization after a member was wrapped in toilet paper and later was set of fire as apart of a prank. University of Kentucky President, Lee T. Todd Jr., says the university followed its fire marshal's recommendation in closing the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house until 2011.Which I believe to be totally fair. Just because the children have left the nest, dosent give them the right
ReplyDeleteto behave as they did. They are legall adults and must take resposibility for their actions.
In regards to the SAE house authorities have suggested shutting it down.I don't believe this recommendation was fair because it punishes students who were not involved, and shuts down a long established house and fraternity.

article: Todd says UK handled fraternity incident correctly.
http://www.kentucky.com/2010/03/10/1175407/uk-president-says-closing-sae.html
ReplyDeleteFor what really happened with the toilet paper and fire, i think that the punishment was deserved because with living in a faternity house, come responsibility and thats something they obviously dont have. I think it's stupid what happened, ecpecially knowing this was the most "noticable" house.
I believe that UK was forced to shut the house down until 2011. The fraternity was suspended for the "prank", and I believe this is fair. It's certainly not legal to set someone on fire just for a few laughs (if anyone would even think it's funny), and I believe the police are handling this correctly like a crime. I'm sure the kid who did it is embarassed, or at least the parents who paid the money to send him to UK are.

1.The authorities have charged Sean P. Dunn with first-degree arson, first-degree wanton endangerment and tampering with physical evidence after he allegedly struck a match, setting on fire the toilet paper-wrapped victim. I belive that the authorities should have just kiked out the people who were involved and found a place for all the other people and remodle the SAE house.
ReplyDelete19 year old Sean P Dunn set his friend on fire after wrapping him in toliet paper. He then rolled on the floor trying to put the fire out, which in turn caught the carpet on fire. The fire martial then suggested they shut the house down, which the President of UK agreed to do and shut the house down. I believe this was fair because the greek system has gotten out of hand, so they need to be punished in order to stop hazing.

The fire marshall has closed down the fraternity and Sean Dunn is being charged with first degree arson, first degree wanton endangerment, and tampering with physical evidence.Yes, I feel it is fair. The boy should be punished and the fraternity house should be closed down until the repairs are made and the pople should realize that this type of incident is not allowed and should not happen again.
