I sort of agree with them, he is doing a great thing but just school lunches is not going to do much.

ReplyDeleteNO! lol
i think kids will reject the menu immediately and the only reason the kids would pretend to like it is to appear on tv. just saying...
I have to say in a way i agree with what kayla said. It is very diverse and in a way alot of the student would like it.

Kayla- I agree that it will help the children inside of school but when they get outside, they will go back to eating junk food. I think that for some of the kids, they may change and try to help change their lives but if they are use to eating junk then they will keep doing it.
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to respectably dis agree with Bridget's comment on the menu not being appealing. I think the menu is very appealing it has a number of different choices to choose from then what we already have. I also believe that the student body would be ten times more satisified with this menu due to the fact that it is so much more different than what we are stuck with everyday (chicken and pizza.)

ReplyDeleteI agree that it is a good idea and good effort which might not work, but I disagree that high schoolers won't like the food. Some kids will eat anything they can get their hands on if they forget breakfast or haven't eaten at home. Many students won't agree with the food but they will probably still eat it. Its school lunch and it is expected that it isn't great.
Basically, everyone has come to the conclusion that it had good intention but won’t be as effective as he thinks. Especially since it is true that most kids eat whatever they want outside of school. I agree with Bria, We need to correct eating habits starting at the home. If we could get the parents to do this I believe obesity could decrease some. I agree with Kayla about the food menu. It is very diverse and although, I think Shelby is correct when she says we would have to cope with a new thing, which is definitely possible. Again, I agree with Shelby, Pizza will be the most favorite mean because it really is something we are accustomed too, and the beef and bean stew just really don’t sound all that appealing. All-in-all most of us agreed on the same thing except for the menu be appealing, but we all have different tastes.

Jacinda: In the Shepherd's Pie there's ground beef, onions, carrots, celery, flour, water, tomato paste, beef base (which is like a beef broth... I think), thyme, pepper, salt, and peas.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
Most of the comments are very similar in thought on the subject. The only comment that is differing is Bridgets comment that the students would not like the meals provided. I personally may like the food depending on how well it is cooked. I agree that students are not going to embrace the food completely, but only because it is different than what they are used to. Really the meals sound like they have a lot of variety for everyday.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Jacinda, i think that the diversity created in this meal could also be seen negativitly, as in no one likes the foods that are offered to them. This may create an upheavel in the food system while being more costly to supply food.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with Kayla's comment about how it will not neccesarily work. Yes children may continue to eat junk food, but a change has to start somewhere.Getting kids aware of healthier food may carry on into their food choices later that day. Its not bad to have sweets or chips. Its all about portion size and when you eat it. He is also teaching important info that will allow kids to eat their favorite foods but how to prepare them in a healthier way. Junk food is not to blame. I know people that eat more junk food then 3 people put together and their no bigger than a rail. It deppends on how your body reacts to the food you eat, what you eat, when you eat it, and if you exersize any.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what many people said about the school lunches only being "half the battle" of tackling the obesity problem. It is a solid foundation for resolving the issue.
ReplyDeleteI disageree with Kayla's second question post. I don't think that high schoolers will take to the new types of foods so quickly. They don't like change and things that are different.
