The Kentucky Horse Park has the opportunity to host a major event in the equestrian world. As a result, local news outlets have bombarded us with not only the actual coverage of the WEG, but all the preparation leading up to it.
If you could attend the games, which event would you like to attend? (Conduct some research to learn about the events if needed.) Why would you select this one?
In your opinion, do you feel the media is overdoing or underdoing the coverage of the games? Explain your answer.
Due at the end of the period today.
If I could attend the Games, I would attend the event of vaulting, because gymnastics are cool and they're done on the back of a horse. It takes huge talent and I've never seen it done before so I think it would be cool.
ReplyDeleteI think they're giving it the right amount of coverage. I don't really think the media is overdoing it or underdoing it.
If I could attend the games, the event I would most like to see is Vaulting. In this event there is a lot of skill involving gymnastics and strength from both the horse and the rider. It is performed to music as the rider does stunts such as handstands and lifting other riders while on a horse. It is very artistic and interesting to watch.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the media is overdoing the coverage of the games, at least in Kentucky. I have never even heard of the World Equestrian games until it was being hosted in Kentucky, so I dont think it is that widely known outside of equestrian enthusiasts and Kentuckians. A lot of my friends out of state have hardly even heard about the World Equestrian games on the news, while in Kentucky it is talked about every day and it seems like such a big deal.
If I could attened the World Equestrian Games i would want to attend the jumping event.
ReplyDeleteI would pick the jumping event because i think it is cool that the horses are trained to go through several different obstacles and are able to know where and when to go. In some cases yes the media is over doing the broadcast, with all the prepreation of WEG this week there has been tons of storys about it and it is kinda ridcilous. But, i also believe that its a once in a life time event that can make our state and our city alot of money. This is why the news keeps broadcasting all the events that are in store while the games are here.
If I were attending the World Equestrian Games, the event I would want to attend would be the vaulting. I would want to see this because I have never seen it done before and the people that participate in it are very talented.
ReplyDeleteI dont think that the media is overdoing the coverage of the games just because it gives everyone the chance to see it. If someone wanted to go to the games but didnt have the money to do so, the news is giving them that chance by covering every part of the games.
I personally really like horses and am interested in the results of the events. I would like to see the hurdle events, just because it's good to see how the rider and horse can work together to clear the hurdle. Surprisingly the rider really makes a difference, the horse doesnt do all the work.
ReplyDeleteI believe the media is bombarding Kentuckians with the events, and most Kentuckians know whats going on. I don't think the games have recieved enough national attention thouogh, besides a brief mention on the Today show.Kentucky should have spent more time hyping up the game to the nation and made it seem like a big thing, like Vancuver did with the Winter Olympics. (which no one really cares about,in my opinion, but it got a lot of attention)
I would like to attend Vaulting. I have been a gymnast for most of my life and I think I would enjoy watching it.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the media is underdoing the coverage of the games. I briefly hear stories of the games on the news but I never hear full coverage of them and how the teams are doing.
I am actually going to the Equestrian Games on the 9th of October. No even in particular, but I am going because it is a once in a life time opportunity. These games may be 4 years apart, but they have never been in the United States and may not me again during my life time. I am just excited to be going. The media, I believe is actually underdoing the games, at least from what I have seen. Though the Opening Ceremonies were on every local channel Saturday night, the events themselves and the outcomes of the events are not being shown very much. We need to step it up.
ReplyDeleteI would want to see vaulting because it looks like the most difficult. I think it would just be amazing to see people do flips and tricks off a horse. I feel like the media is underdoing the coverage because since the games started I haven't heard one thing about it.
ReplyDeleteI would attend the Dressing event for the individual portion of the event. The rider choriographs a performance to music that incoorperate the movements that the hoarse and rider do in regular compatition but to their choice of music, showcasing the riders artistic side and the hoarses willingness to work with the rider.
ReplyDeleteI feel as though the media is underdoing the Equestrian Games. I personally have not heard much about it and my father is volunteering for the games and Georgetown is in the Horse Parks backyard. This event only happens every four years and the location changes every time. This should be a big deal but it has not been.
If I could attend the World Equestrian Games, I would like to attend the jumping. I have always found it interesting to watch horses jump really high, especially since their bodies look too big to really jump. I also think the riders are pretty impressive for not falling off the horse when they are in the air. I do not feel that the media is overdoing or underdoing the coverage of the games. These games are one of the biggest events to ever occur in the area, so the media should be reporting on it heavily. I have seen a couple different news stories each day, but it is not dominating the media to the point where it is annoying.
ReplyDeleteIf I could go to any event at the WEG I would go to the jumping competition. I would go to this event because I think it is interesting that the horses can jump so high. This event shows the skill and obedience of the horse.
ReplyDeleteI feel the media is underdoing the coverage of the games. I have only seen one event on television, and that was Sunday evening. These games are important to a lot of people, and I have seen barely any coverage.
I would attend the vaulting games, because they look fun to watch. I don't understand how people can do that on top of horses so they must be very talented and it would just be really entertaining. I think the media is overdoing the coverage, because in my opinion they aren't that important. But I understand why they are covering it so extensively because it is bringing a lot of revenue to Georgetown, Lexington, and the surrounding areas.
ReplyDeleteIf i could attend one of the five events at the World Equestrain Games I would go to the vaulting event. Vaulting is where elements of both dance and gymnastics are combined and performed to music while maintaining balance on a horse. I would go to this event because i am a dancer, and i used to take gymnastics so it would be something that interests me.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinon, i believe the media is doing a good job on covering the games. I think that it is important that the games get alot of attention because the games are something thats really important to Kentucky because horses are what we are known for. Plus the media coverge will make more people want to travel here which will mean that more people will spend money giving more money to small bussiness owners which overall will help the whole community.

I would attend horse jumping, because this year the horses will be jumping over obstacles that represent Kentucky, which I think will be very appealing as a whole. Also, the hurdles are large objects and it is interesting that horses can make it over them. The media is covering the Equestrian games a lot, but it can never be too much because it is a major ordeal. The news is simply trying to put Kentucky on the map by providing interesting stories and creating a good public image for our state.
ReplyDeleteIf I could attend any of the horse games, I would like to go to the endurance part. I would like to watch this one because there is so much that they do. They go through all the little challenges and it reminds me of cross country.
ReplyDeleteI feel as though some of the media is underdoing it, while some are overdoing it. I havent seen any advertisements on TV about it, like commercials, and the news doesn't really talk about it. I haven't seen any of the events on TV either. But then you have the stores, like Wal-Mart and Meijer that sell the WEG stuff for a LOT of money. And there are flags to represent different countries everywhere, which is cool. I like how we are trying to incorporate the other countries into our cities.
I would most enjoy seeing the jumping competition if I were to attend the World Equestrian Games at the Kentucky Horse Park. This is where the rider steers the horse on a course that has obstacles which the horse must jump over quickly and accurately. The winner is the rider and horse who had the least amount of penalties, which are given when the horse knocks over an obstacle or refuses to jump over it. This would be most entertaining to me because it shows the speed and agility of the horses.

If i could attend the games, i would choose the jumping event. The Jumping event is very challanging for the rider and it's entertaining and a little nerve racking to watch. You never know if the horse can jump high enough through the obstacles.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they are overdoing the coverage. It's probably because i come from a horse racing family (my Great Uncle Larry Lay is a horse trainer) and we always attend horse related events and watch the races on TVG all the time. I think some people would like to sit and watch the coverage rather than pay $40 a ticket.
If i could attend one event at the World Equestrian games, the jumping would be my first choice. I enjoy jumping because it highlights a part of horses that cannot be seen through things like racing. I think that the coverage on the WEG had a large amount of talk and publicity, as well as the amount of media that has incircled the games as they continue. However, the publicity on the events is lacking. I often do not know what is going on more in depth of the vague name of the World Equestrian Games
ReplyDeleteIf I could attend the World Equestrian Games, I would like to attend the jumping event. I have never seen anything like it before and I believe that it would be a neat thing to watch.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the media is overdoing the coverage of the games. Every day when I watch the news, the newscasters always talk about the games at some point in time and it is getting old. There are more imporatant stories in the news and the games are getting redundant. The games are in Kentucky, we get it.
