Last night, a new Miss USA was crowned. (Yes, I openly admit that I watched the last hour of the pageant and shushed William and Anna numerous times so I could hear the contestants lovely respones. Surprisingly this year, no one mentioned world peace.)
Throughout the final hour, there was much discussion about whether or not the official glamour shots for this year's pageant were too racy. Those opposed to the photos said that these women are role models for many young children and needed to have on more clothes; those in support said that they were appropriate and very "fitting" for 2010.
Take a look at the photos yourself by visiting www.missusa.com. Click on the "contestants" link and you'll see all 51 of the shots. What's your opinion on the photos? Too racy or just appropriate? Be sure that you justify your answer.
I can see why some people are offended by the pictures due to their somewhat racy nature, but I personally don't find them that harmful. The pictures show that women can be sexy and embrace their confidence, and still cover up their body significantly. They are role models, but they also proved you dont have to be naked to be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI believe these pictures would be approperiate for a different occasion but as for a beauty pageant no these are not approperiate at all. These women are supposed to be role models for many young girls across the country and setting yourself as a sex symbol is not a good role model by any means. All these pictures do is tell little girls its ok to be looked at as a sex symbol. It sends the message that looks are much more needed than smarts and that is not the case at all.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the pictures are a bit racy but that is only because it is not how I roll. I think that these women are suppose to be role models but how can someone say what makes a good rolemodel and what doesnt. Everyone is different and needs someone different to look up to.
ReplyDeleteI believe the photos were to inappropriate and some of the photos were just rediculous. Miss USA is suppose to set examples and be a role model to young girls. How can you be a boob hanging out, in stripper tights role model?
ReplyDeleteI think that that the pictures are nicley done and tasteful. The composition and lighting is very good. They are kind of like Victoria Secret ads.If they are trying to make the women good role models for young girls the concept was not a good one to use, "waking up in Vegas" implies permisquity and excessive partying because that is what Vegas is Known for.
ReplyDeleteThe photos are too racy. The Miss USA image is all about confidence, poise, and grace. It's benn like that for decades. If being "fitting" for 2010 includes looking like a prostitute, then the wrong message is being sent about sexiness. Sure that stuff is attractive to men, but personality and other qualities should override that.
ReplyDeleteThe photos were very racy, but isn't that the nature of the beast? These women knew what today's modeling business entailed. Too be honest, there are more reasons than racy photos that they should not be a role model for children. That being said, the photos were inappropraite for the pageant. They looked like something you'd see in a victoria secret catalog.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the pictures are a little to racy for Miss USA, because miss USA is saposed to be a roll model and is saposed to be elegant and i feel that those pictures make me look at someone i would not want to be.
ReplyDeleteI think the pictures are to much skin and i think they need more clothes on the girls and that is just my guess. but im not really for sure.
ReplyDeleteI think that for some of the girl's they look really pretty and they don't look too racy, but for some they need to put more clothes on. I agree with Miss Oklahoma though, I think that the purpose of the pictures was to show a sexy version of the girls, I think if shows that they have that side to them, but a little more clothes wouldn't hurt.
ReplyDeleteI think that the pictures were a bit racy, mainly because the sex appeal that was portrayed in these picture suggest something that we have been attempting to stop, sexting, to stop send provacative pictures to one another, also, the stance of Mrs.America is to promote positive role models, not to promote new playmate models. Though parents allow their children to watch Miss USA, would they allow them to watch the making of the new playmate centerfold?

ReplyDeleteI think the pictures do "fit" perfectly in 2010 but that is exactly the problem. Society has made modern day people and celebrities more sexy and too provocative and we accept it because we are now use to it. Girls are following this example. Many parents would probably be upset to find their little girls post a picture of them on the internet half naked. You can still be sexy without showing that much skin. Miss Alabama, Nevada, Mississippi still look just as sexy as the other girls like Maryland, New Jersey, and Ohio who show too much skin.

I thought they were for sure to racy. I mean girls were naked, their boobs were hanging out and i do not beleive that is the example that this country wants to show our kids and future generations. Those women looked like sluts and trash. I think some of them were more on the cute side which was much more acceptable but most of the girls were posed in unique exotic positions that were not appropriate at all specially for the miss usa pagent. these pictures were to racy and i would have rather not seen them because it kinda shows were the usa is headed. Sex is already a big symbol on the usa but this really did just put the icing on the cake.

In my opinion i think that the pictures are a bit to exposed because if a little girl has her mind set on becomig miss usa then she will look and those and feel as if she has to dress that certain way to make it to that point when really it is all really slutty. i think that if it was just for adults and not something that could attract yound kids then it would be fine. but other than that i dont feel that these pictures are appropriate to give an impression on this is just to get a attention i think.
ReplyDeleteWe live in a time where it's socially acceptable to be "racy". These pictures were far from "racy". Pretty much the people who had problems with these pictures were those who still think hooters is derogatory to women.
